We started the Top Up Shop in 2015 and it is supported by both the Basic Life charity and local supermarkets. Our volunteers collect left-over food that would otherwise find its way to landfill and we supplement this with stock purchased from a local warehouse. On the Saturday morning a second team of volunteers helps set up the shop and staff it ready for the customers. In addition to the bags, we also provide food vouchers, support to pay for people’s gas and electricity when in need and signpost to other organisations who can provide support such as debt counselling.
